Infrared home scans are so vital to reducing greenhouse gases, the US Department of Energy recommends them.
Here’s the quote from DOE’s website. “In addition to using thermography during an energy audit, you should have a scan done before purchasing a house; even new houses can have defects in their thermal envelopes. You may wish to include a clause in the contract requiring a thermographic scan of the house. “
Infrared was discovered in 1800 by astronomer Sir William Herschel, while measuring the temperatures of the colors of the rainbow! Sir William’s son captured the first infrared image in 1850.
The word thermography also describes an embossing procedure used on paper products.
Early thermal imagers were huge, like early computers. Honeywell researchers adapted them for commercial use.
Today, many professional-grade infrared cameras are available. We use a $15,000 imager — you are so worth it!
